Open-Table Meal Program: A Place at the Table for Everyone

At French United Methodist Church (FUMC), we are driven by the belief that everyone deserves a place at the table—both physically and spiritually. Our Open-Table Meal Program is a testament to this commitment, specifically designed to combat food insecurity and foster a sense of belonging among the most vulnerable members of our community: refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants.

Breaking Bread and Building Bridges

On Sundays, following our worship service, we come together to break bread and share in a traditional African meal. This practice is at the core of our ministry, serving not only to nourish the body but to comfort the soul. By offering a taste of home, we hope to ease the transition for those who have embarked on a journey to a new and often unfamiliar place.

More Than a Meal

The African meals we prepare are a symbol of our hospitality and a direct response to the needs we see in our community. They are provided freely, with love and consideration for the hardships that come with displacement and economic hardship. We recognize that these meals represent more than sustenance—they are an affirmation of community and a celebration of cultural heritage.

Open-Table: A Philosophy of Inclusion

Our Open-Table philosophy is about meeting people where they are, acknowledging their journey, and providing support that goes beyond the physical. We welcome everyone, regardless of their background, because we believe that every person is a child of God deserving of love and support.

Fostering Discipleship Through Service

Aligned with our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ, the Open-Table Meal Program is not only about serving food; it's about serving each other in fellowship and faith. Through this program, we encourage members of our congregation and community to live out the teachings of Christ by participating in acts of service and kindness.

Supporting Our Mission

The success of our Open-Table Meal Program relies on the generous support of our church members, community volunteers, and donations from those who share our vision. Your contributions help us continue to offer these meals despite the rising cost of ingredients and the challenges our economy faces.
